Lion Sands River Lodge will reopen on 1 May 2018

And just as the phoenix rose from the ashes, she too will rise. Returning from the flames, clothed in nothing but her strength, more beautiful than ever before. – Anonymous

On 21 June, 2017 at 04h00, Lion Sands River Lodge was razed to the ground by a fire. Although there have been some inspiring enhancements to her shape and style, they’ve been very careful to ensure that she remains the ‘soul safari’ they have always known her to be. While her structure may have crumbled, her spirit could never be broken. Over the subsequent months, they’ve spent countless hours planning and designing the new River Lodge, which will be revealed on 1 May, 2018. The mandate to the architectural design team was to take her to the next level, but not to change her distinctively authentic essence.

The guests can expect a sophisticated interpretation of the traditional safari lodge, with an emphasis on clean lines, optimised natural light and contemporary décor. Her living spaces will include a Safari Lounge and Bar; Barista’s Station with artisanal coffees; Gallery (showcasing the works of renowned local artists); and OneLife MORE boutique.

They are enhancing the dining experience by including her original traditional Boma ‘with a twist’; her signature Riverbed Dinners; deck dining, in the shade of the trees and overlooking the Sabie River. Breakfast will be redesigned as a home-styled experience.

Lodge facilities will include: a Spa; a main swimming pool area; a ‘Memory Lab’, where guests will be able to print their photographs on canvas; and a Firepit for sociable nocturnal gatherings beneath the stars. River Lodge’s accommodation configuration will change to 8 Luxury Rooms, 6 Superior Luxury Rooms and 4 River Suites (each with its own plunge pool). One of the River Suites will comprise 2 bedrooms. All rooms are being refreshed.
