Sabi Sabi Selati Camp – Reveals its 7 exquisitely refurbished suites

Sabi Sabi Private Game Reserve in South Africa’s Sabi Sand Reserve, has unveiled the new look for its classic Selati Camp. The exquisite seven suite camp is the epitome of vintage style and effortless elegance, capturing the ‘Yesterday’ of Africa.

A celebration of the 19th century grand steam train era when the Selati railway line passed through the land carrying gold to and from Mozambique, the intimate lodge has been long-admired for its authentic railway memorabilia, billowing linens and classic style. Today, each suite has been lovingly refreshed by designers Derrick Tabbert Interiors and Design Republic, retaining all the charm whilst developing ultra-luxurious touches.

Embracing the golden African light, intelligent remodelling provides an inviting retreat. Oversized mosquito nets, swooped back with woven grass ring holdbacks, drape billowing beds. Muted earth tones are complemented by matt black and antique brass detailing. An artfully designed and manufactured solid Kiaat timber and metal server, dividing the bed and living area, neighbours a custom-made sofa with steel frame and leather belt details, designed to appear as if floating. Original antiques, lovingly collected from across the country, including cupboards, photographs and memorabilia, add to the atmosphere of the gloriously refurbished accommodation.

Tactile leather brings warmth, found in the antique leather suitcases, straps and a centre-piece leather ‘curtain’ which separates the living area and en-suite bathroom. Here, accents of steel, marble and mirror frame the bird-cage shower structure which sits in the centre of the round room.

Floor to ceiling glass doors create a connection with the bush outside, leading to a private outdoor space. This hidden sanctuary offers a deep stone bath and open-air shower, to cool off from the heat of the day or relax under a blanket of stars in complete seclusion.

The romantic elegance of the lodge is further complemented by the renowned warmth of the Sabi Sabi staff and their effortless hospitality. From the welcoming dining area and outdoor boma, gently illuminated by railway lanterns, to the inviting pool and spacious deck with far-reaching bushveld views, Selati Camp is the ideal hideaway.
